DECOLONISING OUR LOVE (A LOVE LETTER FROM THE DIASPORA)

Brand identity, curation & design of a digital exhibition.

Sal:mender magazine is an exhibition based magazine dedicated to diasporic untold stories. The aim of the magazine is to rethink the way exhibitions work, by making them more intimate through an active participation of the audience. We wanted to have a creative space for children of the diaspora to connect through shared stories. Our mission is to share diasporic stories & memories, and understand how they can help us navigate the world better.

This first digital exhibition explores the meaning of self-love, and the different ways cultural identity can play a role in the latter. The exhibition showcases the works of Deanna Nelson-Mckie, and Caroline Japal. Curated through their memories and stories related to their heritage. By focusing on Black Caribbean identities, Sal:mender magazine delivers a thought-provoking curation of stories & artworks, highlighting the importance of cultural identity in our self-love journey.

Sal:mender asks: How can the reaffirmation of Black Caribbean modern identities nurture love and self-acceptance?
